RUTHERGLEN GLENCAIRN 0-5 ARTHURLIE

A teatime pitch inspection saw this previously cup tie given the go-ahead and Arthurlie were in no mood to hang around any longer than they had to, as they convincingly booked their place in the third round of the WoSFL cup.

The home side were limited to a squad of just 11, and, despite a battling performance, it was to prove no match for Andy McFadyen’s side.

Arthurlie were on top from the start, although they were limited to a couple of long-range Jordan Leyden efforts in the first half-hour.

Jack McIlveen was the main threat for Glencairn and he forced Garry Black into a great save on 32 minutes when through on goal.

McIlveen also saw another effort go narrowly wide before the visitors took the lead just before half-time.

Callum Nolan broke out of defence and, from fully 30 yards out, he unleashed a low drive that beat Matt McGinley in the home goal to his left-hand side.

Aaron Healy replaced Kris Amponsah at half-time and the youngster was to continue his great form by playing a big role in Arthurlie running away with the second 45.

On 70 minutes Dale Simeon played a quick free-kick to Healy and the forward beat his man on the left-wing before sending a cross to the back post for Mick MacNeil to turn home and double the lead.

Just a minute later MacNeil grabbed his own second when he tapped in from a Simeon cross.

With 75 minutes played it was Healy’s turn to get on the scoresheet and make it 4-0, converting a low cross from Tam McGaughey from close range.

And three minutes later McGaughey set up the fifth and final goal, Nad Zeb getting his name on the scoresheet this time.
