Winning start to the season for The Lie
Arthurlie kicked off their 2026/27 league season as we faced Hurlford at Dunterlie were we looked to use home advantage to kick off the season with three points on the board.
Hurlford started the game well, but the home side stood firm and limited the away side to one good chance in the early stages, which Waters saved well. The home side would then open the scoring soon after as Sean Slaven nicked the ball off the defender, ran through, and stuck it away confidently into the back of the net. Despite Hurlford pushing forward in search of an equaliser, it was The Lie who went into the break a goal to the good.
Like the start of the first half, the away side started the second half strong, forcing Waters into action; however, Hurlford’s pressure would eventually be rewarded as they got their equalising goal. Despite the setback, Arthurlie kept creating chances to try and regain the lead. Regain the lead we did as Mark Taylor brushed off the challenge from the defender and slotted it home past the keeper at the near post. With ten minutes to go, goalscorer Taylor was sent off, but Arthurlie were still able to see out the 2-1 win to get three points on matchday one.
After the match, the gaffer emphasised the importance of securing a win in the opening game of the season: “It’s always good to get the first win in the opening game of the season.”
