Derby Delight at Dunterlie for The Lie
A final memorable derby for Arthurlie at Dunterlie as they put five past Pollok.
The Lie returned to West of Scotland Premier Division on Saturday, this time for the final derby match of the season against Pollok. Saturday’s fixture would be significant as it would be the final derby between The Lie and Pollok at Dunterlie Park.
The home side came into the match looking to bounce back from a disappointing defeat to Cumnock last time out.
Both sides were pretty much even early on, with both goalkeepers being called into action. However, it would be the home side who would strike first, just after the half hour mark, the referee would point to the spot, and the resulting spot would be slotted away by the skipper, Michael MacNeil. The scoreline would stay 1-0 going into the halftime break.

Arthurlie doubled their lead early in the second half thanks to a superb strike from Sean Slaven. Pollok would then pull one back shortly after, making it 2-1. However, the Lie would soon re-establish as the skipper would convert another penalty to grab his second of the afternoon. With ten minutes to go, the away side would be reduced to ten men as the referee pointed to the spot for the third time in the match and MacNeil slotted the resulting penalty away to complete his hattrick and grab Arthurlie’s fourth of the afternoon. Leo McCartney added a fifth for the home side, capping off a fine team performance.
Saturday’s win was our first competitive win over Pollok since a 3-1 victory in April 2016 at Newlandsfield, and our first win over the visitors at Dunterlie since a 3-1 victory in September 2015.

So, what were the manager, William Dyer’s thoughts on the fantastic victory: “I thought we worked our tails off the full 90 minutes and thoroughly deserved our win. It is the First time we have beaten them in 10 years, so this is one for the fans.”
Next up for the Lie is our final home game of the season, against Glenafton on Saturday at 2 pm. Get yourself down to Dunterlie and cheer on the boys at home for one final time this season.
