The Lie fall to a disappointing away defeat

Arthurlie returned to West of Scotland Premier Division action as we were on our travels to face   Hurlford United.

The away side could name only one outfield player on the substitutes’ bench for the match, due to suspensions and work commitments.

The Lie started the game in an attacking fashion, as Mark Taylor cut inside and saw his effort cleared off the line. Taylor then hit the post with the follow-up effort. Lee Roulston was then denied by the goalkeeper after latching onto a knockdown from Michael MacNeil. Roulston then had to go off injured. Two quick goals soon followed for the home side, leaving The Lie 2-0 down at halftime.

The second half got off to the worst possible start for the away side as Hurlford grabbed their third goal of the afternoon. Even at 3-0 down, The Lie were still pushing for a route back into the game. The away side continued to create chances; however, for all their efforts, they were unable to find a way back into the match, and the game finished 3-0.  This disappointing result is our first league defeat since we lost to Largs on the 28th of February, and it is also the first league game we have failed to score in since we played Pollok in December last year.

Manager Willam Dyer said after the game: “Overall, I didn’t think we deserved anything out of the game today. We have been on a good run, undefeated in 5, but we will need to take our medicine today and move on to Cumnock next week.”

Next up is the first of three home games on the bounce as we welcome Cumnock to Dunterlie Park on Saturday for a 2 pm kick off, so it is a perfect opportunity to get down and support the boys to try and help them get back to winning ways
