The Lie hit  Drumchapel for six

Match report written by Joshua Granger

Arthurlie returned to West of Scotland Premier League action at the weekend as we faced Drumchapel United at the Donald Dewar Sports Centre.

The Lie came into the game looking to do the double over Drumchapel, having beaten them 4-1 at Dunterlie in October, with the away side also looking to make it four games in a row without defeat in the league.

Arthurlie grew into the game as they looked for the opener and were denied a penalty. The Lie found the opener as Mark Taylor finished off a nice piece of play from the away side.  Just two minutes later, Sean Slaven doubled our lead as he latched onto a break of the ball and drilled a shot low into the net, which saw us go in at the break two up.

Just past the hour mark, Max Gillies made it three as he found space through the centre and calmly slotted it past the keeper. The goals kept coming for The Lie, as Sean Doherty powered a header in from a corner. Drumchapel were then reduced to nine men as two red cards were shown in the space of six second-half minutes. The visitors took full advantage of the two extra men as Sean Slaven grabbed his second goal of the game. The fantastic afternoon for Arthurlie  was capped off with a sixth goal as Shay Burke got himself on the scoresheet with a fine finish from outside the box.

Manager Willam Dyer was delighted with the result, he said: “ Being from Drumchapel myself makes it a bit sweeter as well. A big thanks to all the fans who travel to every away game, we really do appreciate the support. It felt great to give you something back today with six well-taken goals.”

Next up for The Lie is a return home to face Shotts Bon Accord on Saturday, so get yourself down to Dunterlie this weekend and support the boys.
