It was a first away game of the season for Arthurlie on Wednesday night as they travelled to Cumbernauld to face Kirkintilloch Rob Roy.
Following Saturday’s dramatic home victory over Cumnock, manager Colin Reilly was forced into making changes as Jordan Leyden and Michael MacNeil returned to the side in place of the unavailable Dylan Dykes and Mark Docherty.
After an even start to the game the home side took the lead on 24 minutes in fine style, the ball breaking to Ryan Tierney on the 18-yard line and the striker hitting the ball on the turn into the top left corner.
It didn’t take long for Arthurlie to level things again, however, Dylan McGuigan flicking the ball on to Conor Bolger who lobbed Gordon Smith in the Rob Roy goal.
Having gone in at half-time with everything to play for, ‘Lie made the worst possible start to the second-half when Smith made it 2-1 to the hosts within 60 seconds of play resuming.
In the 65th minute things went from bad to worse as Lewis Magee was shown a red card after having cross words with the referee following a penalty being awarded against him.
From the spot-kick that followed, Tierney made no mistake to give Rob Roy a two goal lead.
As the visitors chased the game Ciaran McPherson was introduced in place of Michael MacNeil, and he pulled one back on 80 minutes with his first goal for the club.
But it was all too little too late for Arthurlie as Reilly’s team suffered their first defeat of the season in the West of Scotland Premier.
