Match Reaction: Goal-Getter Gary is Spot On

WITH the match at a crucial stage, Arthurlie’s 84th minute penalty had a lot riding on it.

But the calmest man on the park was Gary Carroll as he scored with his second spot-kick of the match (pictured).

Speaking to the Arthurlie FC Social Media channels, he revealed that his dilemma was the fact that he had already faced keeper Chris Taylor earlier in the match.

He said: “I was thinking ‘Do I go the same way again? Will the keeper go the same way?’

“I actually changed my mind at the last minute and he almost got a hand to it, but it went in anyway and won us the points.”

Gary has shown on several occasions this season that he is an accomplished penalty-kick taker.

“I have a decent record from the spot but I don’t practice in training. I never feel any pressure as I take the kicks.

“The whole team is playing well and we are very fast going forward. We have a strong squad but we need to keep putting in good performances.

“Today was a difficult match. It has not been easy playing games so closely together either but we have come through.

“Another factor has been the very warm conditions which take it out you when there is such a tight schedule of matches,” he added.
